Nelson Bay Dream 4WD
I just woke up from a dream. In the dream, I was driving my four-wheel drive, and I noticed it had a shortwave radio antenna on the back, like the kind you’d expect to see out in the remote parts of Australia. In my hand, I was holding a transmitter. I started to wonder, “Where am I in this dream?” I was driving around the sand dunes and the backcountry of Nelson’s Bay, thinking, “What am I doing here?” There weren’t any houses around; it was pretty deserted, just bushland, but it was near the Tomaree Headlands and that area.
When I woke up, I thought, “My four-wheel drive can’t handle sand dunes. I don’t even have an antenna on my four-wheel drive. So why did I have a transmitter in my hand and an antenna on my vehicle?” It was all quite strange.
Then I remembered something my father told me: during the Battle of the Coral Sea, the entire fleet was anchored in Nelson’s Bay because they could hide all those ships there, ready to head out and fight in the Coral Sea, and nobody even knew they were there. The water was deep enough, and the tides were right to accommodate a huge group of ships. I can’t remember if it was 30 or 40 big destroyers and aircraft carriers, but all sorts of ships were in Nelson’s Bay.
That made me think. Just a few days ago, the Chinese launched a nuclear missile from a submarine at Tuvalu in the Fiji group. It didn’t do any damage, but it was a political warning to our government and to Fiji about supporting each other. They were being quite aggressive, even though it was just a dummy missile. But if they’re willing to do that to Fiji, what might they try with Australia?
Back in the Second World War, we had a steel plant on the Hunter River, and we kept it until about 20 years ago. It was a major steel-making center. We also had a big aluminum plant in the Hunter Valley, and up near Raymond Terrace and Tomago, there was a huge aluminum refinery. All of these were major production centers, but they weren’t built to withstand wartime conditions—they were just for normal times. So I started to wonder, “Is China planning something they shouldn’t be?” They would certainly know the history of the bay.
I just wanted to put this out there for people to think about. I’ve never had a dream about driving my four-wheel drive in a situation like that in all the 18 years I’ve owned it. I’ve never had a two-way radio or transmitter to call into a base, either. In the dream, I was even wearing proper four-wheel driving clothes, so I was definitely out there for a reason.
So, Lord, what are you saying? Should we be preparing for an attack? Right now, we have old Collins-class submarines, old destroyers, and an old aircraft carrier somewhere. Our relationship with America is in bad shape at the moment, even though they were our ally in the Second World War. That’s where things stand.
I’m just recording this today as a possible warning about a threat to our nation from a very aggressive China. Our government has been cutting military spending and trying to close barracks around Australia. Apart from the older generation, there aren’t many people trained for war. The younger generation hasn’t experienced a real war since Vietnam. They’ve been involved in smaller conflicts like Afghanistan, but those were far from our own borders. Now, though, this is right on our doorstep.
I’m not upset about it, but it’s something that could happen.
The word for today just came through Matthew 19:26
Matthew 19:26 NKJV
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
